ABSTRACT
These nodules are benign, fibrous swellings developing on the free surface of both vocal cords half way along the free-vibrating margin of each cord (a point often described as being at the junction of the anterior one-third and posterior two-thirds of the cord when the length of the vocal process at the posterior part of the cord which is not free to vibrate is taken into account). The lesions vary in size, from 1-2mm to considerably larger. They cause a characteristic cracked sound on vocalising, and there is particular difficulty in producing a high-pitched, quiet note.
