Personal injury claims may arise in head injuries of this kind, and an understanding of the mechanism of injury is important in these cases. Issues of medical negligence here are largely confined to failure to give antibiotic protection and failure to diagnose and appropriately manage a CSF leak. Liability will exist in cases where preventable meningitis or abscess formation occurs. Cases of this kind are rare.
