ABSTRACT
The modern Chinese labor movement has been closely linked with nationalistic factors in its three major layers of development, namely, ideology, organization, and mobilization. Although attempts at economic improvement motivated many Chinese labor collective undertakings from unionization to strike, bread and butter issues often could not be separated from the problem of imperialism in China.
