ABSTRACT
Demography is the scientific study of population. Almost all demography is historical, because while the modern science of demography is frequently concerned with the projection of future populations, the discipline is mostly involved in the analysis of existing data about populations. Within the larger discipline of demography, one subdiscipline is called historical demography; this subdiscipline makes use of a particular group of sources and special methods for the study of past populations.
