ABSTRACT
The dura mater is a thick fibrous structure and is closely applied to the inside of the skull. Folds of the dura separate the cranial cavity into its compartments, these being the falx cerebri (separating the right hemisphere from the left hemisphere), the tentorium (separating the cortex from the posterior fossa) and the falx cerebeli (separating the cerebellar hemispheres).
