ABSTRACT

Make a list of the salient facts in short, numbered paragraphs. This will serve as a useful aide-memoire in the future. It will also highlight the areas where you do not have all the facts and enable you to make further enquiries. It is also useful, at the outset, to compile a chronology of the relevant dates. Do there appear to be any gaps? Establish what occurred in them. Include in the chronology any important items of correspondence and include a note of what the parties allegedly said to each other but which was not documented.A list of characters may also be helpful for future reference. Consider compiling a ‘core bundle’ of the key documents for use as the case develops.
