The provision of day care or supervised activities

Section 18(1) imposes a duty on a local authority to provide appropriate day care in their area for children aged five or under and not yet attending school. The section further requires that a local authority should provide appropriate care and supervised activities outside school hours and during school holidays for any child. When arranging these activities, the local authority must take into account the different racial groups to which the children in their area belong.
