ABSTRACT

Suppose the following situation. A and B are an unmarried couple without children. A buys a trendy flat in Central London entirely by means of a mortgage. It is agreed that A will be the sole mortgagor and entirely responsible for the repayments. Suppose that they like to live the high life from their trendy apartment and that B pays for all of their entertainment expenses, for their car, and for their regular holidays in Aspen, Cannes, St Lucia and the Seychelles. So lavish is their lifestyle that B’s expenditure is exactly the same as A’s expenditure: both of them spending 100% of their incomes on these items.
