ABSTRACT
Heparin is controlled by measuring the activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) to ensure that this ratio of the patient’s clotting to a control sample is between two and three times normal. It is frequent for the dose to
need adjusting and for action to be required either to increase or decrease the dose depending upon the results.
