ABSTRACT

Organizational assimilation is a key construct that encompasses the process by which individuals become integrated into the culture of organizations (Jablin, 2001). Although assimilation has been primarily the domain of organizational scholars, the concept holds significance for numerous other areas of the field of communication. Thus, in this chapter, we strive to illustrate how and why assimilation constitutes a key construct across the discipline, with important

metatheoretical and practical implications for human communication. Toward that end, we pose four related goals for this chapter.
