ABSTRACT
In the Canadian province of Quebec, the urban scene has witnessed a complete makeover in one generation. Th is traditionally tightly knit, inward-looking enclave of French-speakers within North America has had to open up to outside infl uences of several kinds over the past half-century. Global Hip Hop is one of them. It has had largely unresearched eff ects, but the ongoing “glocalization” of Hip Hop in the Quebec context may be one of the more important for the longrange transformation of Quebec society.
