ABSTRACT

At no time in the history of the modern media industry has leadership been more important than now. During most of the 20th century, newspapers, broadcast stations, and television networks were considered to have a “license to print money.” Today, however, mushrooming competition, changing technologies, and impatient investors make the media management environment highly challenging. Success depends on the ability of a media manager to understand the issues facing the industry, develop a vision for meeting those challenges, and inspire colleagues to adopt that vision and realize it. In short, success depends on the media manager’s leadership ability.
