ABSTRACT

This is the first attempt at a thorough and complete discography of Albeniz's music since the one that appeared in Gabriel Laplane's 1956 biography. There has, of course, been a considerable increase in recordings since that time, not just in sheer numbers but in available formats, all of which are included here: Compact Disc (CD), Cassette (CS), LP, 45, Reel-to-Reel tape (Reel), and 78. Because this book is not intended primarily as a discography, the entries are as economical and uniform as possible. They include only commerical recordings and are arranged into two principal groups, i.e., original instrumentation and arrangements. The first group is organized in the same order as the catalogue of works. The second group is arranged by medium in alphabetical order, then by work title in the same order as the catalogue of works. Each entry provides the complete title of the work (works that have been published under more than one title appear under the one they bear on the recording and are followed by a cross reference), the artist(s) (and arranger, where known), label, format, and identification number (from the container rather than the recording itself, when a choice was available). Where an artist has made more than one recording of a number, they are arranged by label (in alphabetical order) and then by format (newest to oldest). Identification numbers are separated by commas and are preceded by the format only if it is different from the preceding recordings. The entries do not include the location, date, or title of the recording, or any indication whether a more recent recording is simply a reissue of an earlier recording (in most cases reissue information was not available, but it can often be inferred from the identification number).
