ABSTRACT

STOP AIDS Project, an HIV prevention organization run by and for gay men in San Francisco, has remained at the cutting edge of prevention for more than 20 years by maintaining a close relationship with community members and HIV prevention researchers. Our work focuses on behavioral interventions designed to reduce men’s risk for HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). A major tactic in achieving this goal is the creation of prevention messages and targeted campaigns that help gay men make conscious and informed decisions about their sexual behavior. Recently, we have augmented our HIV prevention strategies with an innovative approach focused on social and sexual network interventions. Our goal is to modify sexual network research for use in on-the-ground HIV prevention strategies.
