Committee stage

Committee stage Standing committees are designed to scrutinise Bills in detail. The name is in fact a misnomer, for it implies that these are permanent committees, whereas in fact they are not. The committee will be established for the purpose of examining a particular Bill and will then stand down, a feature which, as will be seen, may have implications for the adequacy of scrutiny.
