ABSTRACT
In seeing this book as a journey that is nearing its close, we must first acknowledge that we have spent time in many lands, including discussions of purposes, conceptual frameworks, research methods, and case illustrations. We recognize that for varying readers’ tastes, we quite likely have spent too much time in some of these lands and not enough time in others. Now we reach this concluding chapter on implications and future directions for research, practice, and training. Our goal is to offer some differentiation of potential directions for communities of practice, research, and study, while reaffirming that this book is fundamentally an offer of an alternative paradigm for all those who think about psychotherapy process and outcome. Within this paradigm, the implications for the relationship of researchers and practitioners, and for the activities of communities of both beginning students of psychotherapy and experienced professionals who want to learn from each other, remain intertwined. All the parties to these relationships have an impact on one another.
