ABSTRACT
According to Levy-Bruhl, mystical elements constitute the most “precious” function of myth. They represent participation that is no longer immediately perceived by the social actors-for example, fusion with a culture hero or with mythical ancestors that are half human and half animal. Following in the path of Malinowski, Levy-Bruhl sees myth as a means of maintaining the integration of the individual in the social group.
