ABSTRACT

This chapter explores two questions relevant to social psychology: What are values? How is a social psychological understanding of values relevant to efforts to create a better world? It is obvious that these questions can involve issues of vast scope. Thus, the intent of this brief chapter is to provide some valuable reflections on these matters, but not to offer “definitive answers” to the questions. The goal of this agenda is to provide a useful review and perspective on important facets of the literature on the social psychological study of values.
