ABSTRACT
The focus of this chapter is second language writers, specifically second language writer variables. These variables have been divided into five basic categories: second language variables, first language variables, transfer, psychological and sociological variables, and demographic variables. The organizing principle for the ordering of these categories is most to least findings. The order of the presentation of these categories and their subcategories is indicated in the chapter outline below.
