ABSTRACT

Topics in Advanced Algebra (previously titled Algebra II in many schools across the country) are dependent on developments from Algebra I. Even if the curriculum is integrated so the traditional topics covered in Algebra I, geometry, and Algebra II are blended together, developmentally, the Algebra I topics must precede those found in an Advanced Algebra course. All of the topics that were difficult to teach in Algebra I have the potential to create complications in Advanced Algebra. Whatever skills remain unmastered from foundational work will hamper student performance in future courses.
