ABSTRACT

What are the assumptions and procedures of research methods commonly used to study the oral and written discourse of L2 classrooms?

What are examples of such research?

In this chapter we begin by examining methods that can be used to study classroom oral discourse, namely, interaction analysis and discourse analysis. In the second part of the chapter we explore how text analysis can be used to study students’ written texts, teachers’ written feedback, and L2 classroom materials. We end the chapter by examining how corpus linguistics can be used to study written L2 classroom discourse.
