ABSTRACT
Guided reading is a direct teaching activity conducted by the teacher with the entire class or with a small group of children. It is also a type of indirect instruction featured in literature groups, as students respond to questions designed to help them explore a book they are reading together. Both activities involve a more thorough examination of literature and encourage students to give deliberate thought to what they read. During these discussions, students share ideas and experiences that increase their understanding of what has been read or listened to.
