ABSTRACT

Assessment at the Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University (ASU) began in Spring 2000 when the School created and implemented an assessment plan all in one semester. Because of the severe time constraints, the plan remained very simple and straightforward. This strategy, for the most part, turned out to be a virtue. The School got its assessment vehicle up and running within 3 months and has collected 3 years of data. It is now in the process not only of trying to aggregate and analyze the data it has collected, but also considering a more sophisticated learning outcomes program that will provide more substantive direction for the future of the School.
