ABSTRACT
One of the most common rate situations is the distance-time-speed relationship. Although we all encounter this relationship in some way every day of our lives, research has shown that is it not well understood by most people. Most students have seen the formula
distance = speed ⋅ time
and have mechanically substituted two numbers (without their labels) into the formula to solve for the third, but understanding this system of relationships takes a long time.
