ABSTRACT
India is an ancient country whose history dates back to about 2500 BC. Early civilization thrived in the Indus Valley and later near the Ganges River. Many kingdoms flourished in India over the centuries. Having gained independence from Great Britain on August 15, 1947, India is a sovereign, socialist, secular, democratic republic.
