Gregory Bateson (1972), one of the greatest minds of the 20th century, raised a thought-provoking question in his book Steps to an Ecology of Mind. Where does a blind man’s sensory mechanism end? asked Bateson. Does it stop at the end of his hand, at the end of his walking stick, or somewhere in between?
