ABSTRACT

For a large segment of clinical and counseling psychologists, as well as for many other licensed or certified counselors, independent practice affords the opportunity to enjoy the freedom to practice in one’s area of specialization, to cultivate new and interesting opportunities for service, to forge professional associations with colleagues from various professions throughout the community, and to earn a comfortable living. Regarding the latter, according to the salary surveys provided by the American Psychological Association (2003), private practitioners average the highest incomes vis-à-vis practitioners in other settings.
