ABSTRACT

The contributions contained in this section are a non-exhaustive representation of the increasing breadth of research on “Coding of Sound in Auditory Cortex”. They demonstrate a range in invasive and non-invasive methodologies, which include recordings of single cell discharge and intracortical electrical slow wave field potentials, and optical imaging of intrinsic signals as well as recordings of electroand magnetoencephalographic signals and imaging hemodynamic responses. The goal of this introduction is to provide the reader with a non-technical overview of the topics, general hypotheses, and conclusions of the authors. In an effort to organize these chapters into a cohesive picture, we have distilled a few overriding issues recurring throughout the contributions and specific to this section of this book.
