ABSTRACT
Ed Cleary began his presentation to the U.S. Supreme Court in 1991 with those words. The case was R.A.V. v. St. Paul. He represented a cross burner. More than a decade later, he would be at the Court again, this time to witness the argument in a case with similar circumstances, Virginia v. Black.
