ABSTRACT
In this chapter, we begin our exploration of the roots of crime by considering theories that suggest that these roots lie partly in human biology, particularly in the genetic heritage we receive from our parents; in our evolution as a species; and in the unique characteristics of individual brains. Some of these theories are highly controversial and have stimulated intense debate.
