ABSTRACT

It is all well and good to be in favor of learning by doing. It is easy to say to teachers that they are now to use learning by doing, that they no longer can lecture or give multiple choice tests, and that learning should be fun and relevant for the students. It is easy to say. But teachers, like the rest of us, know how to do what they always have done and find freedom intimidating. That having been said, there are two things that seem to be true all the time. When asked, teachers know full well what the real value of the subject they teach is in the lives of their students. And when pushed, they will try to retreat to teaching something other than that real value.
