ABSTRACT

The context in which children view television and use other media and their interaction with family members or lack thereof also moderates media impact in important ways. Media use can become a social activity with other family members. It can also become a more isolating experience in which children and adolescents view TV play video games, or surf the Internet alone in their rooms. Kaliebe and Sondheimer (2002) pointed out that with a dominant media culture, the family barrier between children and society will become more porous, and preserving customs and group identities will become increasingly difficult.
