ABSTRACT

If you want to improve your writing, from now on, plan for revision. (Fulwiler, 2002, p. 168)

Writing is revision … Through revising we learn what we know, what we know that we didn’t know we knew, what we didn’t know. (Murray, 2001, p. vii)

You only write as well as you make yourself write. (Zinsser, 2001, p. 203)

The purpose of revision is not to cure a seriously ailing manuscript, but to enhance writing that has promise. In this chapter, we explore a variety of revision issues that relate to your academic writing initiatives, and we situate your revision decisions and initiatives within a personal framework.
