ABSTRACT

Communicative empowerment of the most disenfranchised population onearth, women living at subsistence or poverty levels, is an urgent necessityif we want to move towards more sustainable and equitable futures. This population constitutes the invisible underbelly of modernization, globalization, and development. If we are serious about addressing the widening gaps between the rich and the poor, as well as coming up with alternative visions that will make possible a more just distribution of resources, we must make every effort to recover the voices of the least privileged people-women at the margins in every society. It is these women who have paid the price of progress and it is they who can see the glaring shortcomings of current systems most clearly.
