ABSTRACT
Beta Products plc owns a factory set in the centre of a manufacturing town and employs a considerable number of people. One day, the factory emits a quantity of acid fumes which damage the paintwork of the neighbouring houses and some residents’ cars. In addition, Beta has recently installed some machinery which is considerably more noisy than the machinery it replaced, and which annoys their immediate neighbours.
