ABSTRACT

Most Americans remember where they were and what they were doing when the three commercial jet airplanes struck the World Trade Center and Pentagon and the fourth crashed into a field in rural Pennsylvania on the morning of Tuesday, September 11, 2001. It was, as many have observed, a defining moment in American history. The events of that day and the months that followed generated countless news stories and features. Many of these features were follow-up or aftermath stories and performed an important function in the overall coverage of newspapers, magazines, news-based World Wide Web sites, and even many subscription and organization newsletters. Americans and others around the world needed their voracious appetite for information and understanding of what happened to be satisfied.
