ABSTRACT
Although most news stories in print journalism use the inverted pyramid structure, which requires the journalist to present material from the most important to the least important topics, a few other types of news stories call for a somewhat different organization. In those stories, material needs to be presented or considered differently before writing begins. Three common types of stories that require a variation on the inverted pyramid approach to standard newswriting are obituaries, rewrites, and roundups.
