ABSTRACT
Particularly in today’s competitive media atmosphere, newspapers are eager to publish not only news stories but also stories readers want to read-stories that offer readers a variety of writing styles, structures and subjects. Alternative stories, called features, are frequently found in “Lifestyle” or “Today” sections of the newspaper, as well as in special Sunday sections such as “Travel,” “Home” or “Health.” Alternative stories also appear on front and inside pages.
