ABSTRACT

Those who go into broadcast news have to enjoy the challenge of working to tight deadlines in an environment of what is at times controlled chaos. Step into a TV newsroom right before the newscast, especially in a small-to medium-market station where everyone seems to have the workload of 1.2 persons. Reporters are putting finishing touches on late-breaking copy, the producer is yelling at someone because several scripts are not in hand, a tape editor is cursing one of the balky machines and the fact that no others are available, and the sports editor is rehearsing copy in a corner. Police and fire monitors continue to blare and telephones ring.
