ABSTRACT

Regulators Few organizations in the United States escape the scrutiny and influence of government regulators. From jetliners 35,000 feet above the earth’s surface to miners 5,000 feet below it, most organized human activity attracts government attention. Some agencies, such as the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), become as well known as the companies they monitor. Others, such as the Mine Safety and Health Administration, are seldom seen or heard outside their own industry.
