ABSTRACT

In Being There, Chance the gardener is an adult but has many characteristics of a child. For this man, TV seems to be his only socializing agent because he seems to have no family and no friends. Here fantasy and reality are the same for this man who seems to be caught in the early childhood developmental stage. Kosinski (1970) seems to develop this book based on the question, what if TV raised children? What would they look like? What would be the effects?
