ABSTRACT

When teaching the concept of bullying to elementary school students, we should define it in ways that they can easily understand, such as the PIC acronym: Purposeful, Imbalanced, and Continual. Elementary school children can understand the concept of purposeful behavior. “He meant to do it” or “They did that on purpose” are both examples that students use regularly to show they know that the behavior was intentional. Students are generally very quick to pick up on the difference between accidental behavior and intentional or purposeful behavior. A child who accidentally bumps a desk, causing books to spill is understood by children to be different than an aggressive child who purposefully causes the spilling of the books.
