ABSTRACT

As the rate of technological change continues, the media perhaps more than any other industry has been affected by computerization. Further, perhaps no other professional practice promises to be as completely reshaped as does journalism in response to the evolution of the Internet (Trench, 1997). The WWW provides new opportunities for journalists. It also opens up the business of news provision to nontraditional entrants who may pose a challenge to journalists’ traditional role as public information providers (Gordon, 1995; Schudson, 1996).
