ABSTRACT
It is both an honor and a burden to be invited by the editor~ of this handbook to write a final chapter that comments on the progress of the current generation of attitude researchers and that suggests directions for the future. As we read through the chapters, our foreboding at the magnitude of the task of studying such a large number of rather long chapters changed to pleasure and excitement about the growth and deepening of attitude theory and research that the authors of these chapters have so ably described. Each chapter represents a formidable scholarly effort by authors who analyze a particular area of attitude research in a V~·ay that both celebrates achievements and charts issues needing new research.
