ABSTRACT

Lynn Worsham, currently professor of English at Illinois State University, is both a leading theorist in the field of rhetoric and writing studies and the editor of one of its top theoretical journals, JAC. Worsham is well known for her sophisticated approach to the rhetorics of gender, race, trauma, and emotion, so it was not much of a surprise to learn that she earned her BA in psychology and English at the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1976. She earned her MA in English and then her PhD in Humanities at the University of Texas at Arlington in 1988, and she immediately accepted a position in the English Department at the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee. She earned tenure at UWM right on time (1994), and four years later she joined the faculty at the University of South Florida, becoming a full professor well ahead of schedule (1998). Shortly after arriving at UFS (1998), Worsham also became the editor of JAC, accepting the reins from co-editors Sidney Dobrin and Thomas Kent. In 2004, she-along with Olson and JAC-left USF for ISU, where she currently teaches in the English department’s Rhetorical Studies Program.
