ABSTRACT
It wasn’t like Joe to lock himself in his room. He was a happy-go-lucky kid, typically dashing out of the school bus to grab whatever junk food he could find, ride his bike, play basketball, hang out at the pizza shop-do anything but stay home. Although his mainstream school experiences had their share of challenges-as they would for any deaf student-he had always done well, both academically and socially. He was bright and a gifted athlete, now in the ninth grade. Moreover, his teachers were committed to giving him any extra services he needed.
