ABSTRACT

In troversion -E x traversion . As we observed in Chapter 13, whether you are more introverted or extraverted may well be related to physiological functioning. Eysenck theorizes that those who are more extraverted seek external stimulation because they have low levels of cerebral cortex arousal that they want to increase, whereas those who are more introverted avoid external stimulation because they have high levels of cortical arousal that will become painful if increased further. Alternatively, introversion-extraversion may be related to one’s sensitivity to external stimulation. Introverts may seek lower levels of stimulation because they are more sensitive, whereas extraverts may prefer higher levels of stimulation because they are less sensitive.
