ABSTRACT

The Family and Child Education (FACE) program is a unique collaborative partnership designed to provide comprehensive family literacy services for American Indian families. For more than a decade, the FACE program has drawn from the expertise of the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) at the federal level, three national educational organizations (Parents as Teachers [PAT] National Center, High/Scope Educational Research Foundation, and the National Center for Family Literacy [NCFL]), and local educators. This collaboration serves a remarkably diverse population, representing more than 25 American Indian tribes, and subsequently emphasizes the value of culturally rich instruction and practice.
