ABSTRACT

Apersonal relationship, in order to qualify as such, must bemore thanmerely subjective. It must be intersubjective. At the very least, the participants in the relationship must be aware of each other. They must also acknowledge that some kind of relationship exists between them. If these minimal intersubjective criteria are not met, one personmight believe that he or she has a personal relationshipwith the other, whereas from the other’s standpoint this belief is the stuff of fantasy or delusion, rather than reality.
