ABSTRACT
This chapter examines recent developments in Mori-medium education in Aotearoa/New Zealand.1 In order to focus meaningfully on these developments, we must first situate them critically within the wider historical, social, and political background from which they emerged. This is necessary for two reasons-one related to the particular national context to be discussed, the other to the particular academic discipline in which that discussion takes place.
